After three years in the Army, he returned to Berkeley, graduated and married Eleanor Venstrom (d. 1981). Over the next several years, he received his Masters in Engineering Science from UC Berkeley, and his PhD in Nuclear Engineering from MIT.

Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janet, his daughters Kristine and Sharon, his grandson, Jack, son of his late son, Duane, and his step-children, Scott and Melody.

A life-long proponent of nuclear energy, Don spent his professional life working in the field. After short periods in Danville, CA, and Idaho Falls, ID, he worked at General Atomics in San Diego. After an early retirement from GA, he went to work in Switzerland at the Swiss government nuclear research lab until his retirement at 65.

Motorcycling and music kept Don engaged during his entire life. Though sold his motorcycle when he was 81, he played his bass up until his passing. His incredible knowledge, brilliant mind and warm smile will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at the family home on July 1, from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. Please phone 858 274-2795 for directions.
